The Big Picture:
C70 Builders is seeking a Project Engineer to review, provide analysis, management, and resolve field coordination issues with project team members and participants. Project Engineers plan, design, develop, and manage projects for the construction or repair of buildings and various other construction projects.
Excellent communication skills are necessary as you will interact with staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment. Your ability to remain flexible, inventive, dedicated, and efficient with high integrity and confidentiality is vital to your success.
Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications, project health, safety and environment (HSE), quality, building materials, and required standards as per discipline
- Intermediate knowledge of means and methods and construction sequences
- Ability to apply basic engineering/problem-solving principles to construction challenges
- Knowledge and understanding of construction law and building codes
- Planning, organizational, and time management skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize own work, and delegate simple tasks
- Ability to create a comprehensive schedule
- Ability to administer subcontracts and contract documents
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and internal operational systems with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple projects from bidding through close-out
- Must have a working knowledge of and be able to direct the operations of at least these management systems: CPM scheduling (Microsoft Projects), unit man-hour performance, budget management, document control, change management, and subcontracts
- Ability to travel and relocate as required
- Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship, both now and in the future
- Absent an approved exemption, due to federal, state, local, provincial, and/or client requirements, this position may require an individual to be fully vaccinated by an FDA-approved or authorized COVID-19 vaccine or undergo weekly testing upon hire and as a condition of continued employment
What will you be doing?
Responsibilities:
- Work with PM and Superintendent negotiating, reviewing, writing, pricing, negotiating, and executing agreements, contracts, and change events with vendors and subcontractors in a timely manner and to effectively manage project risks
- Maintains contracts with select trade partners and is responsible for subcontract administration, including defining work scope, answering inquiries, and monitoring progress
- Performs quantity takeoffs and surveys to manage contract progress and reporting
- Coordinate details of various subcontractors, including verifying insurance, preparing paperwork, and requesting final payment from Finance
- Participates in change management and change order process, including pricing, processing, and assessing cost and schedule impact before reviewing with the project manager
- Implement the pre-construction quality plan
- Develops and monitors overall project schedule
- Consults with designers/engineers when reviewing drawings and suggests value-added or alternative construction methods or materials
- Collaborates with project manager in creating and issuing tender packages and subcontracts and monitoring their progress
- Ensure budget quantities and reported progress are correct
- Measure project productivity and lead efforts to build work at the lowest possible cost
- Ensure daily, weekly, and the monthly cost is accurate
- Obtain and maintain all necessary construction permits
- Work with Project Manager for fee payments or recurring permit expenses
- Develop and distribute RFIs
- Develop and maintain: Material Tracking List, Project Test, and Inspection Listing, Concrete Placement Log, Non-Conformance Report
- Create, oversee, and distribute contract documents
- Lead all aspects of testing and inspection processes for the construction quality management program
- Implement a three-phase inspection system
- Establish reporting formats, protocols, schedules, and any off-site testing procedures
- Notify the Project Manager and Superintendent promptly of test results or inspection items that do not conform to contract requirements
- Be a champion of C70 Builders’ “Nobody Gets Hurt” safety program through participation in job site safety reviews, mass safety meetings, and safety training
- Handle submittals
- Work with PA in setting up register in accordance with project specificationsObtain the customer/architect’s approvalPrepare project-specific transmittal forms in ProcoreCoordinate the packaging, review, and processing of submittalsExpedite submittals to ensure material deliveries are in sync with the project scheduleCommunicate details and requirements for the submittal process to subcontractors and suppliers,Issue submittal requirement letters that outline packaging and processing requirements
- Provide periodic updates of the submittal register to the customer or architect
- Incorporate all processes and procedures that support the project closeout phase
- Define and implement procedures for posting revisions and updates to as-built construction documents
- Incorporate subcontractor as-built documentation in the procedures for revising or updating contract documents
- Other duties as assigned, including:
- Determine alternative work methods as needed
- Coordinate safety and compliance for all team members
- Maintain schedule of timelines and follow through until completion
- Enforce processes for basic project recordkeeping and correspondence functions including daily reports, photographs, submittals, requests for information (RFIs), and letters
- Maintain and audit financial data in Procore
- Collect documentation, advise project management on the contract, and perform the analysis and data processing needed for change orders and disputes
- Champion project adherence to corporate standards

Work Conditions
Project Engineers typically spend much time on job sites and/or in the field.
As with all careers in the construction industry, safety is the top priority. While on construction or other job sites, project engineers must be aware of and comply with all relevant safety policies and procedures.

Education & Other:
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing commercial construction projects
- Four-year degree or equivalent experience in a related field
- Current driver’s license
